Construction & trades bookkeeping & accounting

Contractors tracking job costs, progress billing, retainage and subcontractor payments.

Overview

How we keep construction & trades books accurate

Contractors usually find out a job lost money after it is finished. Job costing done every month turns that into a warning while there is still time to act on change orders, labour and materials.

We code labour, materials and subcontractor costs to jobs, track progress billing and retainage receivable, and keep the subcontractor records needed for 1099 reporting.

Where the books usually break

  • Materials and labour not coded to jobs, so job profit is unknown
  • Retainage receivable forgotten until the project closes
  • Subcontractor insurance and tax details missing at year end
  • Progress billing that runs ahead of or behind actual work completed

What we typically handle

  • Job costing
  • Progress and retainage billing
  • Subcontractor and 1099 tracking

FAQs

Construction & trades questions

Do you provide job costing?
Yes. Costs are coded to jobs as they are recorded and a job profitability report is included in the monthly pack.
Do you track retainage?
Yes. Retainage withheld by customers is tracked as a separate receivable by job so it is billed and collected when due.
Can you help with subcontractor 1099s?
We maintain subcontractor payment records and vendor details through the year so your tax preparer can issue 1099s quickly at year end.
