E-commerce bookkeeping & accounting

Online sellers reconciling marketplace payouts, fees, refunds, inventory and sales tax data.

Overview

How we keep e-commerce books accurate

A marketplace payout is not revenue. It is gross sales minus fees, refunds, advertising and reserves, netted into one deposit. Booking the deposit as sales understates both revenue and costs and makes margins impossible to read.

We break each payout into its components, reconcile it to the bank, track inventory and cost of goods sold, and prepare the sales data your sales-tax filings depend on.

Where the books usually break

  • Net payouts recorded as revenue, hiding platform fees and refunds
  • Inventory purchases expensed immediately, distorting monthly margins
  • Several sales channels with no consolidated view
  • Sales tax collected by marketplaces mixed with tax the business owes itself

What we typically handle

  • Payout-to-deposit reconciliation
  • Inventory and COGS tracking
  • Sales tax data preparation

FAQs

E-commerce questions

Can you reconcile marketplace payouts?
Yes. We split each payout into gross sales, fees, refunds, advertising and other adjustments using the platform's settlement reports, then reconcile the net amount to your bank deposit.
Do you file sales tax returns?
We prepare the sales data and reports your filings need. Filing itself is handled by you, your tax preparer or a sales-tax service.
How do you handle inventory?
Inventory purchases are recorded as an asset and moved to cost of goods sold as items sell, using the method agreed with you and your tax preparer.
