Startups bookkeeping & accounting

Early-stage teams that need investor-ready books without hiring a finance team yet.

Overview

How we keep startups books accurate

Most startups do not need a finance team. They do need books that survive due diligence: a monthly close, consistent categorisation, and statements an investor can read without a call to explain them.

We set up a clean chart of accounts, close every month on a calendar, and produce investor and board reporting with cash runway, so fundraising starts from organised numbers.

Where the books usually break

  • Founders categorising transactions themselves late at night
  • Personal and company spending mixed in the early months
  • Fundraising delayed while historic books are cleaned up
  • No monthly runway figure the team trusts

What we typically handle

  • Monthly close from day one
  • Investor and board reporting
  • Cash runway modelling

FAQs

Startups questions

Our books are behind. Can you catch them up before a raise?
Yes. Catch-up and cleanup is quoted as a one-off project, then the books move onto a regular monthly close so they stay current through the raise.
Can you prepare board and investor reports?
Yes. We prepare a monthly or quarterly pack with the financial statements, burn, runway and short written commentary.
When should a startup move from bookkeeping to a virtual CFO?
Usually when forecasting, fundraising models or board-level decisions need senior input. We can add virtual CFO support to an existing bookkeeping engagement at that point.
